About Me

Spring 2008
It surprises me that it's already spring. (Though, it's still early February, so I guess it's only spring in South Carolina.) Hm, changes since the summer... I am Project Leader of D5 Robotics now. I find the position a very enjoyable experience; I love being involved in D5 and I am very grateful to have the opportunity to be where I am. I'm also on the A-Team of Irmo's Science Team, and I am dedicated to that. I don't have as much time for other clubs like Math Team and Academic Quiz Team, as the build season is in full swing and Robotics takes a lot of my time (which I willing give), but I still enjoy meeting with them when I get the chance. As for Robotics... I don't think that my confidence from the summer was unjustified. I believe that we may have our occasional problem or deadline miss, but we are still doing well and having fun, which is the most important part. I just have to thank everyone that has worked so hard -- and will continue to, as the season has just begun in the fifth week of build -- to make this year a success! I wish us all luck for the 2008 season! It's just as exciting as I thought it would be!

Summer 2007
I'm a rising sophomore at Irmo High School. I feel confident about next year; I have much more experience than I did coming in to ninth grade, and more than I did through most of the year. I know that the team has grown a lot since then too, and I know we'll be up and running and ready to rumble for the start of the 07-08 school year. As for my role on the team, I work mainly on the mechanical aspects, though I'm always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. I also work on strategy, and I could be considered the rules official as things stand. I was the student coach on the drive team for the '07 season (last season). Outside of D5, I'm on the Science Team, Mu Alpha Theta (math club), and Math Team of my school; and I'm planning to get involved in even more clubs/teams this coming year. (By the way, if you're at Irmo and reading this, I implore you to join the math team, because right now the math team consists of... me. Not that I couldn't beat all the other schools on my own, but I'd enjoy some company.) Academics set aside, there are many things that I enjoy doing. I like writing, and I love playing ultimate frisbee with friends. (Or, really, doing anything with my friends.) I enjoy hiking and swimming, as well as many other things (including but not limited to chocolate ice cream).

The Story Behind My Internet Name

Aratznes_Scythe
Aratzne is one of the main characters in my book. She's very important to me, I guess. Anyway, I really like scythes, and she has an awesome scythe. So "Aratznes_Scythe" is really "Aratzne's Scythe." I thought it looked cooler to leave the apostrophe out.

CerilMidnight
People have asked me why my Gmail username is different from everything else. Ceril is the other main character in my book. He's been around for a long time, and I feel like he and I have gone through a lot together. I just thought that he deserved it, in a way. So that's it. Oh, and the "Midnight" part is because his chosen name (Ceril) is the Elvish word for "Midnight."
(By the way, a good way to reach me is via Gmail. That would be "CerilMidnight" at gmail .com.)
