I must say, I never thought I'd join Robotics. What ended up getting me here? The meeting at Panera. Yeah, I got into it for FOOD. I wasn't that dedicated early on, but, then again, we weren't really meeting that much either. And then there was that meeting...a meeting I decided to come to at our old home, Irmo High School's Engineering Lab. It was that day when we decided to move. That day, I was also appointed to a fairly important position in our team--Safety Officer. I ended up coming Moving Day (that Saturday) and I've been the same ever since--addicted to Robotics incurably. I'm one of the few that get to meetings as early as I can and stay as late as I can. My family donated the famous orange chairs, and I made AWESOME brownies for the Bake Sale.
FIRST has done a lot for me already. It has introduced me to my current hobby (programming) and given me ways to lengthen my horizons on it, as well as giving me interaction with other high-school students interested in the same things. I've been able to use and further develop my math and science skills with my team, learn engineering principles though I am not actively enrolled in a high-school engineering class, discover and develop my own talents and gifts, as well as being able to help others with the development and discovery of their own skill sets.
Yeah, there's more to life than Robotics, as much as we try to deny it. My life could be considered eventful, one would suppose. My coursework and the resultant strain applied to the frail straps of my backpack will tell you--as I'm sure most have guessed--that I am an Honors student at Irmo High School. I'm not really all crazy about school, I spend a comparatively small amount of time studying/doing schoolwork. My real life is extracurricular activities, and I usually end up learning more in my outside endeavors than in school. Outside of Robotics, I am a A-team member of the Irmo High School Science Team, a varsity member of the Academic Quiz Team, the copy editor and webmaster of the school newspaper, The Stinger, and participate in theatrical performances in the fall (Spring is dedicated to robotics)
I'll admit it, like most of the computer enthusiasts we find in our team, I also strongly support open-source software, I use Firefox and Thunderbird, and I am on the front lines for spreading the word about Firefox! I am heavily interested in programming / web page design, and currently I know HTML/XHTML/CSS very well; thus you can see the page around you, that is hand-programmed, every single tag of the way. I also know JavaScript and am hoping to get some nice stuff up on the site for my readers (I better have readers!) in the next few days or so. Please bear with me until then. I'm learning C for robotics purposes, and Python for system development purposes. If you are interested in any of the subjects above, please, please get in contact with me by any of the methods I have listed. I would be happy to get you started on the right track.
