It is the official end to build season! Our robot has been crated and shipped at 6pm last night. We are currently taking a bit of a break but we will meet soon to work on our pit!>
We are now in week 3 of the 6 week build season and have designed our robot witch is well on it's way to being built! Come check us out! We have meetings this week Monday-Thursday starting at 6 and on Saturday at 10:30! Hope to see you there!
The light parade on Sunday the 2nd was a big success, thanks to the team members, and our mentors, Mr. Lamon, Mr. and Mrs. Stankovic, and Mr. and Mrs. Carnabuci. I have to say, the float was beautiful from day to night, and it was very impressive to the onlookers. This is a wonderful accomplishment for D5, and it was a good way of interacting with the community. Job well done, everyone!
"YAY!!!!!!!!!!! I have to say, that after the last post, I thought things would be going much slower than this...however, Mr. Orr recieved an email over the weekend that is much too exciting not to quote directly: "Stephen, I have good news. We have worked it out and you can use the Foundation for tax exemption. Barbara will be contacting you with the details. Thanks for your patience. Danny" This means that we have done it!! After much patience and with very little paperwork on the team's part (-something I myself was rather skeptical of.) Be sure to thank Mr. Orr and the Education Foundation, if you are to see them. And I will get the letter to CJ as soon as possible." written by Maggie Oliver
It’s finally here, your opportunity to try your hand at flying a remote control airplane. LARKS float fly is this Saturday, October 13th from 8:00am till 4:00pm at Rawls Point on Lake Murray. Don’t miss this chance to enjoy flying over the waters of Lake Murray with you at the controls!!!! See below for more details.
D5 Robotics members, here’s your chance to learn to fly radio controlled airplanes, enjoy a picnic lunch, watch other pilots fly their planes off the waters of beautiful Lake Murray and actually control a float plane in the air with the assistance of a qualified instructor at your side. One of our sponsors, LARKS (Lexington Aircraft Radio Kontrol Society) will be having their annual Float Fly on October 13th at Rawls Point on Lake Murray. D5 Robotics MAY be able to join them and 30-40 other pilots from around the southeast to try your hand at controlling one of their trainer airplanes in flight. If LARKS can work out the logistics, after a brief ground school and a couple sessions on the flight simulator, you should be ready for the trainer plane. This is a real, fully functional radio controlled, gas powered airplane that they will take off from the water. You will have your own radio that is tethered to the instructors, and once airborne, with a flip of a switch, you will be in full control, flying the plane in gentle turns high above the waters. If at anytime you wish to stop flying or things get a little unsettled in flight, your instructor simply releases his switch and he is back in control to bring it in for a gentle water landing. If you are interested, see the “Want to learn to fly?” post in the “Members Only” forum to sign up.
I'm going to actually decide to update this, UNLIKE CJ... *glares menacing in such a direction* Perhaps I'll be the only one who does such! Well, today was the first annual D5 Robotics social, hosted at Kelley's [me] house, and if I do say so myself, it went down pretty awesome. We rocked the grill with kabobs and any shortage of food was essentially non existant. Most of the team ended up playing Halo 2 the entire night, which wasn't so bad. Those of us who didn't end up playing Halo 2 either played DDR or watched Rocky Horror Picture Show (now a horrifying and scarring Robotics memory) as well as Interview With a Vampire (also scarring, but in a different way). After the actual social came the LAN party where other non members showed up. There was like two. HOWEVER! We had the Orr show up around 9:30 or so and join us in a game of Tower Power [is that the right name?] on Halo 2. Hopefully our next social will consist of actually watching the Star Wars movies since that's our possible theme next year... (I am allowed to reveal such, yes?) I shall possibly keep you updated in regards to when that may be... Since CJ won't.
